Shangri-La International School - teacher training

Awareness of the culture and characteristics of the school environment is essential to this approach to teacher education. The need to establish strong links between the training body and schools used for practice teaching will be recognized. Similarly appropriate school personnel will be actively involved at all stages of the training process. The training will be based on identifying and resolving actual classroom issues. Investigation of these problems by trainees will be seen as part of the teacher education process.

If all children are to be effectively taught, teachers must be prepared to address the substantial diversity in experiences that children bring with them to school the wide range of languages, cultures, learning styles and challenges, talents and intelligence that require in turn an equally rich and varied repertoire of teaching strategies. In addition teaching for universal learning demands a highly developed ability to discover what children know and can do, how they think and how they learn and how to match learning and performance opportunity to the needs of individual child.

Therefore, we are providing refreshment training for SIS teachers time and again to adopt the new teaching styles from highly experienced trainers of Nepal. For us, the most effective training is that which has an impact upon the knowledge, skill and transfer of the training to practice. It essentially concerns knowledge of the topic to be taught and of the methods for teaching it that is inevitable for a skilled teacher that emphasizes classroom skills and techniques. This can be achieved through providing information and theory, demonstration and practice and feedback on practice and coaching. Apart from this, micro teaching program will be highly emphasized in the school. This is likely to be most useful with experienced staff or to support the use of a new approach. Furthermore the individual teacher will also be provided short term of in-service training that will be beneficial for the micro teaching program.

The further education program for teachers will facilitate them as who to teach, why to teach, what to teach, when to teach what, and how to teach. Moreover, this program will help the teachers to analyse, discuss, evaluate and change their own practice, heightening teachers' awareness of the context in which they work enabling them to appreciate the moral and ethical issues implicit in their practices and to empower them to take greater control over their own professional growth and to influence future directions in education.

Apart from this, the teaching and learning system at SIS will benefit from inviting distinguished professors and prominent scholars to promote excellence and to achieve the standard of international level of education.
